Mateo Fumero and Minerva Capdevila are two artists and a strong couple who created Turbina Studio, where art, design and life meet.

They are based in Barcelona and they developed their own work methodology. Their artistic and personal life intertwined without premeditation and created a project that integrates art, love and passion. The dividing line between what belongs to the personal and professional spheres is permeable and the research for a balance between the two sides was natural. Its development over the years has gone through the knowledge of each other’s projects, through experiments, until finding, without realizing it, a point of common interest.

Their works talk about time and movement: “the conceptual connection that is triggered between the two principles, is present in almost all of our pieces”, says Mateo, “and can be in an explicit form, through the use of electric motors or implicitly, based on aspects such as erosion, balance and tension”.
Actually, in some of their artworks there is a mechanical component that helps them to achieve their final meaning, adding imperceptible, slow and subtle movements: in this way the emotional part of art meets the scientific part of it.

Turbina Studio is a project born in Barcelona. The surrounding environment conditions the development of ideas, in a natural way, through light, colors, culture, landscapes and relationships: they are all interconnected aspects that influence artists unconsciously.
However, Mateo and Minerva do not believe in the divine inspiration or genius of the artist, but they built their own way to find new ideas and to stimulate creativity. In addition, their teamwork requires clear communication of concepts and this helps a lot in shaping ideas.

“We try to apply a method to generate ideas; we believe that if we can disrupt creativity we will be able to reproduce it again or get closer.”

The materials that are used for their creations are different, but what the two artists try to do is respect the language of each of them.
The experiment is different for each material, they proceed by attempts with different techniques until they find its ideal shape, so that it can be expressed naturally. This always leads to new experiences.

Most of their sculpture seems so close to nature, but, as you can see from the video, the process of creation takes several steps and it is all handmade; that makes unique every single piece.
However, the research process on the material is slow, meticulous and sometimes even uncertain.

“Each material contains in itself historical values and an internal symbolism that brings us back to deep and ancient feelings.
This is why we talk about the memory of the materials and the vibrations they produce on us.”
