DESCRIPTION

During the construction of his first building, Masseria Moroseta, Andrew Trotter became increasingly fascinated with the solid form. Blocks that could be cut, voids created within those blocks, and the physical presence that only stone can give.
Block Lamp plays with the idea of solidity, of light coming from within a void, and one cylindrical vase being born from the other. Andrew worked alongside stone artist Jean Briac Ravello, after he worked on the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

The Block Lamp could have been made by machine, but he wanted each piece to be hand carved, so that the imperfections of the stone would shine as brightly as the perfect simplicity of the design. Each has the touch of the human hand, the product of many hours of fine, labour intensive craftsmanship.
